Island of Blood Skaven Clanrat Gallery

*Squeek*

Phew - just finished this week's painting project...
x50 Skaven Clanrats from the new Island of Blood Box set. I painted for a couple of hours each night,  managing to add x1 basecoat colour to all x50 models in each sitting. Over the weekend I added details and washed the models.

In a bit of an experiment (that I'll write about in more detail separately) I washed x25 models when they just had basic colours and washed the other x25 after also applying highlights. On the latter (more detailed) batch, I also used different washes on different parts of the model, rather than just Devlan Mud on the first lot. Can you tell the difference? Was it worth it?

I'll post a stage-by-stage in the next couple of days for these "Generation 5" Clanrats (to accompany the current Clanrat stage-by-stage, which is for "old-style" Skaven models...). Right now thought, I need a break...
...and a beer!

  1. Congratulations on painting such a horde of an unit! I wish I had the determination to paint such quantities to that good standard. :)

  2. I'm sorry to say that I can't tell the difference...

Do you have photos to compare one from each group? Because I can't pick any differences out.

I have to do an assembly line of 140 rats here soon... Any pointers?

  3. Thanks for posting Mister Feral and SonicBenton!
@ Mister Feral: I don't know if the standard is good, but it is a test of willpower that nearly broke me! ;-)
@ SonicBenton: No worries, I can't tell the difference from these pictures either! (I think it is because these pics were taken in my kitchen at night - natural light would show up the difference a LITTLE bit more.) Anyway, I'm thinking of doing an entry trying to comment on the differences in more detail. Would that be of use? I could also include (hard) lessons learned...
    Let me know!

  4. I would really like that! I have your blog favorited actually. I've converted my rats into rabbits and I'm painting them white... so the process is a lot longer I think.

But you have very good things to say and I enjoy the pictures for sure! If you have the time, I for one would read it.

  5. Rats into rabbits?! Links please! The look on an opponents face as he got over-run by a horde or ravenous rabbits would be priceless.

The third page is when the pictures start to get interesting. They're coming along great so far, I'm almost finished with the bases and then I'll convert all the ears on my infantry. After that, I'll just spray them white on the bases they come with then glue them on the painted magnetic bases to finish them.
